Watching Phil Lapsley talk about his book on Phone Phreaking on CSpan Book TV.
Strike 1) He said it was"inconceivable" that anyone but women could be telephone operators in 1940. Other sources, which I'm sure he has read, show that teenage boys were the first operators, and teenage boys behaved like teenage boys as operators, and that is why the company changed.
Strike 2) "Stone Knives and Bearskins" is a McCoy line, not Spock.
Interesting topic and I want to read the book, but this two things got my goat.
