This gets to stuff I've been thinking of for a while, and even more so.
As a half-step toward this (and don't get me wrong, this is a deeper, more thought out and better critique of the teaching of computer programming than I've articulated), I've said for a while that my lack of familiarity with version control systems is a failure of the program I was in, and if they switched the online project turn-in from the decades-old system to 'git push turnin master', that would be a big thing.
