The problem is, old music has been through a decade-long winnowing process, so the songs that are still remembered from the 1950s or 1960s have something to them. When I say "I want to listen to more music released since my youngest son was born, and stop listening to music from before I was born", I inevitably end up having to be part of that winnowing process, not just the beneficiary.
